Iran-Oman Talks Near Completion Over Strategic Strait

Negotiations between Iran and Oman regarding the strategic Strait of Hormuz have reached their final stages. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, indicated the progress in discussions, emphasizing that the waterway will not revert to its pre-conflict condition. An agreement is eminent on a new maritime route separate from previous passages.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei revealed that both nations are aligning on a route respecting sovereign rights and ensuring national interests and security. The potential pact involves a new corridor through the strait, distinct from established routes, amid ongoing hostilities since a ceasefire failed over shipping disputes.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, vital for global oil shipment, has been ascribed to U.S. actions, including a naval blockade and strikes alongside Israel aimed at Iran's military capabilities. Discussions to reinstate a prior memorandum with the U.S. continue, with diplomatic efforts focused on alleviating tensions in the region.
