Explosive Blaze Devastates Iraqi Fuel Depot Near Sulaimaniyah
A significant fire erupted at a key fuel storage depot in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq, near Sulaimaniyah, resulting in numerous injuries and the destruction of over 30 tankers. The fire, which ignited late Monday, produced massive plumes of smoke and flames visible from vast distances.
Local authorities reported no fatalities, though approximately 20 individuals, many with minor injuries, were affected. Emergency response teams were deployed promptly as the fire intensified, with several explosions reported throughout the night.
The fire consumed an estimated 3 million liters of fuel, marking a severe blow to one of the province's main fuel supply sites. While the immediate threat has subsided, with the blaze now under control, the origin of the fire remains under investigation.
Despite the significant operational disruption, local market spokespeople indicated that fuel prices in the region are unlikely to be impacted by this incident. The full extent of the damage is currently being assessed, and civil defense teams remain on alert.
