Fatal Hospital Blaze in Germany's Northeast
An early morning fire at the Helene-von-Bulow-Klinikum in Ludwigslust, northeastern Germany, has resulted in the deaths of two patients and injuries to 34 others. The blaze, which originated in a patient room, swiftly spread to the roof above the radiology department, prompting a large-scale emergency response.
Authorities report that 82 patients were evacuated amidst dense smoke that permeated the hospital complex. Emergency services confirmed that the injuries sustained were primarily due to smoke inhalation, with none considered life-threatening. The hospital's emergency room was temporarily shuttered but has since resumed operations following containment of the fire.
More than 100 emergency personnel were involved in the effort to control the fire, and an investigation by the Rostock Police Headquarters is underway to determine the cause. As the town's sole medical facility, Helene-von-Bulow-Klinikum is crucial to the region, and management is working towards restoring full operations in areas unaffected by the fire.
