Deadly Bus Crash in Hungary Claims 12 Lives

A devastating bus accident in eastern Hungary has resulted in the deaths of 12 Polish tourists, leaving 10 others seriously injured. The incident occurred on the M3 motorway near Mezokeresztes, approximately 140 kilometers from Budapest. Authorities report that the bus, en route from Serbia to Poland with 57 passengers and two drivers, veered off the road into a ditch, overturning upon impact.

Initial investigations by local police suggest that driver fatigue may have been a contributing factor, as evidence points to the possibility of the driver falling asleep. While eleven fatalities were confirmed on site, one more victim succumbed to injuries at a local hospital. Emergency responders faced challenges during the rescue, requiring extraction through bus windows to free trapped passengers.

Following the tragic event, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar extended condolences to the families affected and commended the swift actions of rescue teams. Polish authorities, including Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and President Karol Nawrocki, have expressed their sorrow and assured coordination with Hungarian officials to support the victims' families.
