Israeli Tactics Challenging Lebanese Security Control in South

In a recent development, the Lebanese military has accused Israel of obstructive measures that hinder Lebanese forces' efforts to assume control of designated areas in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Army asserts that ongoing Israeli military operations, including shelling and clearing activities, are impeding the full transition of security responsibilities to local authorities, as per a U.S.-backed agreement.

The arrangement calls for a phased Israeli withdrawal from the region, envisaging Lebanese forces taking charge in three initial pilot zones: Zawtar al-Gharbiya, Froun, and Srifa. Despite this agreement, Israeli activities persist, complicating military deployments and civilian resettlement. Concerns remain as Israel has not committed to a clear timeline for complete withdrawal.

Lebanese authorities report that Israeli forces continue conducting military maneuvers, including machine gun combing operations in various locations, further exacerbating tensions. Activities such as bulldozing fields and infrastructure sabotage mark Israeli resistance to ceding ground, amid disagreements over Hezbollah's presence and stipulations for Israeli exit.
