Tour de France Final Stage Altered Amid French Wildfires

The final stage of the Tour de France has undergone significant modifications due to the urgent need to redirect emergency resources to combat wildfires in southwest France. Originally planned as a 133km route starting from Thoiry, the race will now commence on the Champs-Elysees, reducing the distance to 89km.

This alteration results from a strategic redeployment of security personnel, as emergency services prioritize addressing the blazes threatening the Gironde region. The Ministry of the Interior has redirected internal security forces previously dedicated to the race to bolster firefighting and rescue operations.

The revised stage still concludes on the renowned Champs-Elysees, albeit with a modified route featuring additional circuits and a Montmartre climb, a feature newly introduced in 2025 and popularized during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Meanwhile, Tadej Pogacar is poised to clinch his record-equaling fifth Tour victory.
