Ethnic Cleansing Attributed to RSF in Sudan's El-Fasher

Amnesty International has released a report accusing the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of engaging in ethnic cleansing in el-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State. The report alleges that from 2024 to 2025, the RSF committed crimes against humanity by attacking civilians, particularly targeting the Zaghawa ethnic group in and around the city.

The documented atrocities include murder, forcible transfer, torture, and sexual violence, with Amnesty citing interviews from 246 individuals, including 208 survivors. The report highlights severe impacts on children, the disabled, and the elderly, with widespread displacement and acute humanitarian needs.

The RSF's siege of el-Fasher from May 2024 to October 2025 exacerbated these conditions, causing food shortages and near-famine as access to humanitarian aid was severely restricted. The United Nations has noted that these tactics align with genocidal markers, further underscoring the gravity of the allegations against both parties in Sudan's ongoing conflict.
