Ethnic Cleansing by RSF in Sudan’s El-Fasher Confirmed by Amnesty

Amnesty International has accused Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of committing ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity in el-Fasher, North Darfur State. The allegations cover a period between early 2024 and October 2025. RSF personnel reportedly engaged in a litany of abuses against civilians, including murder, torture, forcible transfer, and systematic persecution, particularly targeting the Zaghawa ethnic group.

The human rights organization documented extensive human rights violations, highlighting that the civilian population endured severe hardships. Among the atrocities were the displacement of hundreds of thousands of children, with many facing life-threatening conditions. Inhabitants with disabilities and the elderly experienced severe neglect and targeted attacks.

Amnesty’s report is founded on testimonies from 246 individuals, with 208 survivors detailing conflict-related abuses. The siege laid by RSF on el-Fasher from May 2024 to October 2025 effectively cut off essential resources, escalating into a humanitarian disaster compounded by famine conditions. The geographic and demographic targeting underscores the destructive impact of the RSF’s campaign in the region.
