US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have arrived in Doha for discussions mediated by Qatar regarding the ongoing US-Iran negotiations. Official statements clarify that no direct meetings with Iranian representatives are scheduled. This development follows a recent escalation involving airstrikes prompted by disputes over the Strait of Hormuz.

The hostilities, which posed a threat to the recently brokered memorandum of understanding, emphasized the fragile state of relations. This MoU commits both nations to cease military operations and reopen critical shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz. With 20% of the world's oil and gas shipments passing through, the area's stability is paramount. Yet, despite preliminary agreements reached in Switzerland with Pakistani and Qatari mediation, tensions flared with an Iranian attack on a cargo ship.
