RSF Accused of Ethnic Cleansing in El-Fasher: Amnesty Report
The Sudanese Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are accused of committing ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity in el-Fasher, according to a recent report by Amnesty International. The report details widespread violence between 2024 and 2025, during which civilians were reportedly killed, injured, and subjected to torture and detention in the capital of North Darfur State, Sudan.
Amnesty's investigation highlights severe abuses by the RSF, including murder, forcible transfer, imprisonment, torture, rape, and persecution. The report notes that hundreds of thousands of children have been displaced, often returning to danger during attacks or attempts to flee. These actions have had a disproportionately severe impact on vulnerable populations, including people with disabilities and older individuals.
Continual attacks targeted the Zaghawa ethnic group in the areas surrounding el-Fasher. The ongoing conflict in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023, has led to significant loss of life and displacement. Reports from the UN have characterized the situation as bearing genocidal features. Amnesty's findings are based on interviews with 246 individuals, including 208 survivors who witnessed or suffered from these abuses.
