Iran Establishes Communication Channel with US Following Qatar Talks
Iran has announced the establishment of a "communication channel" with the United States to monitor compliance with the memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreed upon two weeks prior. This development follows indirect technical discussions between Iranian and US representatives in Qatar, aimed at diffusing tensions after recent hostilities.
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, disclosed that some of Iran's $6 billion in frozen assets will be allocated for purchasing necessary goods. Previously, US President Donald Trump stipulated that these funds would only be utilized to procure American products. Meetings with Qatari officials, notably from their Central Bank, covered expenditure plans for these resources.
The indirect talks in Doha also addressed shipping through the potentially volatile Strait of Hormuz and the enforcement of the ceasefire per the MoU. Brokered by Qatar and Pakistan, the agreement entails a 60-day ceasefire, reopening the strait, and a roadmap to a permanent resolution and nuclear accord.
