Lebanese President Aoun Seeks U.S. Support to Resolve Israeli-Hezbollah Conflict

Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun is engaged in pivotal diplomatic efforts in Washington, where he has initiated high-level talks aimed at securing U.S. backing to resolve the ongoing conflict with Israel and Hezbollah. Aoun's discussions include meetings with the U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, focusing on the implementation of a U.S.-brokered agreement for an Israeli troop withdrawal from southern Lebanon.

Aoun emphasized the necessity for close cooperation between Lebanon and the United States to enforce the agreement signed on June 26, which advocates for disarming Hezbollah and restoring Lebanese sovereignty. Rubio expressed support for Lebanon's initiatives, acknowledging the country's determination to reclaim territorial integrity and seek peace.

The Lebanese President's visit, which marks the first by a Lebanese head of state to the U.S. since 2009, includes an anticipated meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump. Aoun plans to present a proposal to Trump concerning the dismantling of Hezbollah's arsenal, advocating for U.S. intervention to expedite Israeli withdrawal and stabilize relations.
