Intensification in Yemen: Houthis Target Strategic Cities
Recent hostilities in Yemen have seen the Houthis conduct intensified operations, launching coordinated missile and drone attacks on the strategic cities of Marib and al-Makha. These strikes resulted in multiple casualties and disruption of local infrastructure, complicating the already volatile situation in the region.
The assaults on al-Makha, a key port city, have significantly hampered port operations, contributing to a critical bottleneck on the Red Sea. Meanwhile, Marib, a city of both economic and strategic importance, faced significant damage in residential areas following the targeted missile and drone barrage.
In retaliation, Yemeni military operations have escalated with over 180 actions against Houthi positions reported over the weekend. These developments mark a notable escalation in the longstanding conflict, following a brief respite in hostilities observed since April 2022. Renewed aggression underscores the fragility of the current power dynamics, as critical provinces experience resumed fighting.
