Hamas Engages Egypt on US Gaza Peace Plan Amid Disarmament Controversy

A Hamas delegation has initiated discussions with Egypt's intelligence chief to advance the implementation of a US-brokered peace plan for Gaza. These talks in El-Alamein mark a critical juncture as Hamas signals willingness to coordinate on a 15-point strategy, despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's disapproval, citing security concerns tied to Hamas disarmament.

The delegation, led by senior Hamas figure Khalil al-Hayya, aims to explore methods to pressure Israel into adhering to the agreement's terms. Hamas officials have underscored their commitment to facilitating the plan, conditional upon Israel's reciprocal commitment to the agreement.

Concurrently, discussions are underway with various regional actors, including Qatar and Turkey, to strengthen compliance mechanisms. A high-level meeting involving Trump's envoy Jared Kushner, US representatives, and other key stakeholders is anticipated, aiming to surmount barriers to the implementation of the peace initiative.
