Escalating Tensions: Israeli Raid in Qalandiya Leaves 51 Injured

An Israeli military operation in the Qalandiya refugee camp within the West Bank has resulted in injuries to 51 Palestinians. The raid, characterized by its scale, involved the demolition of commercial structures near the Qalandiya checkpoint, followed by a curfew in the adjacent town of Kafr Aqab. Israeli forces sealed off crucial access roads to Jerusalem, thereby intensifying regional tensions.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society reported a high level of violence accompanying the raid. Thirty-five individuals required hospitalization, mainly due to severe physical interventions, while six others received on-site treatment for rubber bullet wounds and tear gas exposure. Notably, emergency medical teams faced significant impediments from Israeli soldiers, obstructing their access to the injured.

Tactics during the operation included the detention of numerous Palestinians for on-the-spot interrogations within homes repurposed as temporary detention centers. The raid in Qalandiya was part of a broader pattern of increased Israeli military actions and settler violence. United Nations inquiries have criticized Israeli authorities for their failure to curb settler aggression and in some instances, facilitating such activities.
