Drone Strike Targets Iraqi Kurdish Leadership: Origin Linked to Iran

The office of Iraqi Kurdistan's Prime Minister, Masrour Barzani, reportedly came under a drone attack, according to the region's security agency. This offensive also targeted the residence of the head of the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) security and intelligence agency. Reports thus far indicate no casualties.

Authorities claim the drones were launched from Iranian territory. Two Hadid-110 drones carried out the attacks, striking both the private office of the Prime Minister and the Security Directorate's residence. This attack highlights the ongoing tensions between Iran and the semi-autonomous Kurdish region, amidst accusations from Tehran of harboring Kurdish opposition factions deemed threatening by Iran.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani condemned the drone strikes, labeling them as "illegitimate and unacceptable," and sees this as a direct threat to regional security and stability. Iraqi Kurdish officials have consistently denied using their territory to compromise the security of neighboring nations, signaling a precarious geopolitical balancing act.
