MI6 Confirms Russian Sleeper Agent Network Dismantled Across Three NATO Countries

June 4, 2026

British intelligence agency MI6 has confirmed the successful dismantling of an extensive Russian sleeper agent network operating across three NATO member states, marking the largest counterintelligence operation in Europe since the Cold War. The operation, codenamed Operation Nightfall, was conducted jointly with German BND and French DGSE over eighteen months. Fourteen individuals with fabricated identities have been arrested in London, Berlin, and Paris, with evidence suggesting direct links to Russia's GRU military intelligence directorate. Senior officials at NATO headquarters in Brussels described the network as having been positioned to conduct sabotage operations against critical infrastructure in the event of a military escalation with Russia.
