French Intelligence Dismantles Iranian Spy Network in Marseille

June 9, 2026

French counter-intelligence officers have arrested five suspects believed to be part of an Iranian intelligence network operating out of Marseille. The operation, conducted by the DGSI, targeted individuals who had spent over a year monitoring shipping schedules and cargo manifests in the port.

According to officials briefed on the matter, the suspects posed as academics and business consultants while maintaining contact with handlers believed to be based in Tehran. The network had reportedly been active since early 2025, gathering intelligence on European energy shipments passing through the Mediterranean.

French authorities have not yet issued an official statement, but parliamentary sources confirm a closed-door briefing before the intelligence committee is scheduled for next week.
