French Intelligence Dismantles Iranian Spy Network in Paris
French counterintelligence officers have arrested five suspects believed to be part of an Iranian intelligence network operating in Paris. The suspects, who posed as businessmen and academics, had been under surveillance for over a year before their arrest.
According to officials briefed on the operation, the network was tasked with monitoring Iranian dissidents and journalists living in exile in France. The arrests follow similar operations in Germany and the United Kingdom earlier this year.
The French Directorate-General for Internal Security confirmed the operation late Tuesday, calling it one of the most significant counterintelligence successes of the past decade.
